Most pet owners know to provide for their dog’s basic needs. However, what many people often overlook is obedience training for their dog. Dogs need attentive owners who are willing to put in the time setting rules, boundaries, and limitations. Owners sometimes fail to take this into account when bringing a dog home and ignore the problems which often lead to behavioral issues. Shelters house too many dogs with issues that could have been prevented through proper training.
Training Your Dog
Our dog trainers understand dogs and their many different personality types. Even though you know your dog better than anyone else, training programs for dogs instructed by knowledgeable, skilled trainers will help you better understand your dog’s needs and what motivates him or her to learn.
Board & Train, Day Train, Custom Training
A properly trained dog is dependent on the interest, commitment, and cooperation of the owner and family members. We will provide you the techniques and strategies that we use to set your dog up to succeed, and we set you up to be the safe, predictable partner your dog needs. Remaining consistent with the learned cues, and reinforcing what was learned is KEY to successful obedience training.
Board & Train: Your dog will board at our facility and get daily training/lessons for a 14 day period. We limit the number of participants in the program which allows us to provide personalized, one on one attention to each pet. Compared to other facilities that do a higher volume, we feel our approach to training results in transformations not available elsewhere.
We will teach your dog heel, sit, stay, down, come, and finish heel. We will also work on issues you may have such as jumping up on people, pushing out the door, pulling on the leash, etc. Your dog will learn to complete the lessons with and without distractions, one on one with a skilled, professional trainer.
At the end of the 14 day program you will work with your professional trainer for an hour session to go over, in detail, each cue learned. You will then have access to 30 minute weekly follow ups, all included in the price of the Board & Train program. You must be 100% on board with being educated on the cues and reinforcing them daily in order to have a successful, obedient dog..
Day Train:You will drop your dog off daily and pick them up each afternoon Monday – Friday only. Your dog will learn the same cues as with Board & Train, but will go home each night and return the following day for a 10 day training period. This includes 4 follow up lessons after the 10 day training period to continue to practice the cues learned.
Custom Training:We have other options for more challenging dogs, dogs that may need a refresher course, and in some cases, dogs that go home with the trainer. Speak to our Director of Training, Josh Harris, or a Velvet Snout associate for more information.
Pricing
Our 14 day Board & Train program is $1,800 and requires a non-refundable $400 deposit to hold your reservation. The remaining $1,400 is due upon starting the program. .
Day Train is $1,500 for a 10 day period, Monday- Friday only and requires a non-refundable $400 deposit to hold your reservation. The remaining $1,100 is due upon starting the program.
All Board & Train dogs must have current proof of vaccinations, any medication they may need, and enough food for their 14 day stay. Your dog will be socialized with other dogs (if appropriate) and have the opportunity for group play and exposure to other dogs during their stay.
For all other training programs pricing is determined by level of service needed, proof of vaccines is required.

Finding a trustworthy and patient trainer for your dog can be difficult. It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident in your instructor. You will meet and talk with the trainer before you start or sign up for any of our training programs. Dogs are sensitive creatures and often need an understanding and loving individual to help them learn new behaviors. You want the best for your dog and so do we. Our trainers have years of experience and success, and use positive feedback to let the dog know they got it right as they learn. We train and communicate with your dog, and teach you to do the same.
